Chinese New Year Celebrations
Gong Xi Fa Cai (Happy New Year)
Primary 5 enjoyed celebrating the Chinese New Year with Mrs Cheung, our Chinese classroom assistant, today. Mrs Cheung showed the girls how to make a very healthy egg fried rice which contained lots of lovely vegetables. Everyone one tasted it and liked the flavour. Some even asked Mrs Cheung for the recipe! We were very impressed with the girls who used chopsticks to eat their rice dish.
We had fun learning about the Chinese zodiac animals. This year is the Year of the Rooster. The girls in P5 were born in the year of the rat and the year of the pig. Miss Magill is a tiger and Mrs Cheung is a rooster.
In Literacy we learnt all about the Chinese New Year traditions. We know that red is a lucky colour and in Chinese families people are often given red envelops containing money in the hope that they will have prosperous year ahead. Mrs Cheung gave us all chocolate coins to celebrate this tradition.
"xiè xie" (thank you) Mrs Cheung.
