Mind Jars
As part of our Educating the Heart programme, we made mind jars to learn more about ways in which we can calm our bodies and minds through breathing and other techniques. We are developing coping skills for responding to situations when things are not calm.
The glitter in the jars represents our emotions, feelings and thoughts. The girls were thinking of a time when they felt frustrated or angry when shaking their jars. They noticed how the glitter was swirling and rushing as they shook their jars and it was hard to find a clear spot.
When they stopped shaking their jars, they saw how the glitter settled to the bottom and the water became clear. This shows that when we give ourselves space and time to settle we can clear our minds and when we have cleared our minds, we are in a great position to feel good and express ourselves in a healthy and happy way.
The girls will use their jars to practice this type of breath activity and to help settle if they are ever feeling overwhelmed.
