STEM in Action!
Our young engineers in Primary 6 have been working extremely hard to plan, design and build their very own model bridge. As part of the Sentinus STEM project they had decided that it would be a great idea to design a bridge to be built in the Glens of Antrim because of the increase in tourism in the area. The girls were very enthusiastic and produced a fantastic bridge that was made out of paper tubes and joined with plastic rivets. They had a keen eye for detail and created a beautiful landscape for the bridge too! As part of the project the girls were provided with the opportunity to present their bridge to a number of judges at the Young Innovators Fair at Ulster University Jordanstown on Monday 13th June. This was an excellent opportunity for the girls to showcase their work and chat to children from competing primary schools about their projects and interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
A very special thank you to Brian, the engineer, who took time to come into our class throughout terms 2 and 3 to help us with the planning, designing and amending of the project.
We are extremely proud of the girls for their hard work and dedication throughout the project! We hope that as a result of this project they are inspired to become our future engineers!
