World Poetry Day
Our Primary Seven pupils recently entered a poetry writing competition in association with the Seamus Heaney HomePlace in celebration of World Poetry Day. The pupils’ poems were based on the theme of spring and in preparation for their writing they studied Heaney’s poem,’ Death of a Naturalist’.
Today, we were thrilled to learn that two of our wonderful pupils’ poems have been placed, second and third in the writing competition. The pupils also received some fantastic feedback about their poems.
Angeline Kelly, Education Officer, commented that the poem placed second,
‘has the best line I’ve read in a poem this year – ‘If spring were a woman / she would dance with the flowers.’ Also great use of vocabulary and imagery. Well done!’
The poem placed third, ‘was also a wonderful poem…Beautiful personification and lovely sentiment.’
We are all so tremendously proud of our budding poets in Primary Seven!
